Art Journaling

I finally dove in a bought a mixed media art journal... I am having so much fun exploring new-to-me techniques and tools. There are so many tutorials on YouTube. I love that people are so willing to share their creativity and provide inspiration. Here are a couple journal entries that I have played around with. There are also some really nice looking free vintage printables to be found on various websites and blogs. That's where the birds that I used today came from.

Honey Factory - Mixed Media On Canvas

I'm really having a blast with this mixed media stuff! This was done using Distress Inks, Versafine ink, paper cut out on the Sizzix eClips with files from SVG Cuts and Lettering Delights. The stamps are from Unity Stamp Company, Vintage Handwritten and circle elements from April 2013 SMAK. I made the honeycomb stencil out of trancparency film with basic shapes in eCAL. I love the bees the most...they are from the Steampunk cut file collection at Lettering Delights. I gave them some dimension by using two black layers with the wings bent upwards on the top layer then added a black and yellow body to finish them. There are a couple metal findings and the flowers are from Recollections. I think I'm finally done with it now.

Mixed Media Play

This is my first attempt at a mixed media collage.  I used Spring Banners from Miss Kate Cuttables for the birds on a wire. The houses were created in Adobe Illustrator and sent to the eClips to cut. I used stamps from Unity Stamp Company. I have paint, ink, gesso, gel medium and who knows what else all over my hands right now...I could get used to that (= The inspiration came from RachO11 on YouTube. There are some amazing projects on that channel.

Shabby Balloon

Morgan showed me a picture of a box from GypsyJingles Boutique to use as a basis for her balloon. This is what I came up with. The ribbon on the upper portion of the balloon was created by gathering the sheer brown ribbon, "aging" the pink velvet ribbon with Walnut Stain Distress Ink, then I tatted the top layer. There are flowers made from ribbon, paper that I created simple svg files to cut, and with stamps from Unity Stamp Company. The balloon base and basket are modifications to files from SVG Cuts along with some of my own. I've never been crazy about the Shabby Chic look, but it could grow on me (=

You Lift My Spirits - Unity Stamp Company Card/Color Challenge

I haven't tried a card challenge before so I thought this would be fun! Unity Stamp Company quickly became my favorite source for rubber stamps. Partly because they are made in the USA and I love supporting small businesses...mostly because the designs are beautiful and the prices are reasonable. I used stamps from "Wishing You Joy" Itty Bitty, "Chalk It Up Elements" March 2013 SMAK Kit, and "Blossom Stackers".

Rainy Saturday Morning Card Making

Card made using clock mask designed in Adobe Illustrator then cut with Sizzix eClips. Distress Ink layered over masks. Stamped with Unity Stamp Company's rubber stamps. Embossed with white embossing powder. Distress Ink to age the edges. Butterfly from SVG Cuts, layered on vellum.

Paper Hot Air Balloons

I finally made one for me to keep. I've lost count of how many have been made as birthday and newborn gifts. I've made a few modifications to the file since the first one I made. I made the side panels of the balloon a bit longer. The sides are from SVG Cuts teapot. The basket was adapted from the base of SVG Cuts cupcake box, with the top half of the side panels removed. I used a white core cardstock for the basket and lightly sanded it after embossing. The pennant shapes were created in Adobe Illustrator and saved as svg files.
